Father's Day in VA

Max took his first plane ride Father's Day weekend.  Brian was going to Train School for the week so Max and I flew up with him the weekend before so Max could meet his Great Aunts on the Rooney side of the family.   I was the middle seat with Max and Brian was several rows back on the aisle.  The nice guy beside me traded so we could all sit together.

After an hour and half delay to replace a light bulb we were on our way.  Max did great waiting and waiting to get going.  When they had the 1st 15 min wait update I got up with Max and let him sit in my seat and play so that he was not "pinned down" for so long.  Once we got going he was out like a light for the rest of the flight.

My Dad was able to fly up from Jacksonville to see us and the "girls" for the weekend.  Max could not stop staring at he Grand-Paw since the last time they saw each other my dad had a beard.  He keep reaching for his face like he was missing something.  It was really cute.

The hotel room had a crib, so we brought our own sheet and Max had no problems sleeping somewhere new.  Well except it was smaller than he was use to so after moving around a bit in his sleep his feet were sticking out of the crib.

On Saturday we had breakfast with the whole family.  My cousin Jackie laughed when I brought in the high chair cover.  Like he was going to be let go of long enough to sit in a high chair....not.going.to.happen.

All of my aunt's were so cute holding and loving on Max all weekend.

Here is Max and his Auntie - Aunt Joan.

And flirting with Aunt Ellen.

And laughing it up with Aunt Carol.

Grand-Paw had to fight the girls to get his cuddles in.  It was so hot sitting outside at the Cracker Barrel but we sure did enjoy the rocking chairs and the visitation.

While everyone did their Saturday errands we walked around the downtown area of Norfolk.  We checked out the USS Wisconsin and had a little time to walk through the Nauticus museum.   It was neat to see all the Navy history with my Dad who retired from the Navy before I was born.

They had a kid's area to play make believe life on a ship.  Max was very interested in the hat, he would not leave it on his head.

For dinner on Saturday night the whole family went to the Freemason Abby.  Downtown Norfolk has a service called FRED - Free Ride Every Day - that will shuttle you around down town for free.  I think we wore out the battery on the shuttle cart.  It would hold 5 passengers at a time, and since we were a party of 6 coming from the hotel we had to split up into 2 groups.  It was a really nice ride and the driver gave Brian some great tips on places to eat around the Norfolk Southern building during the next week of classes.

On Sunday Max and I flew home while Brian stayed for school.  I got a bit emotional when they would not let Brian go through security to walk us to the plane.  They were mostly helpful at security but it was challenging to do the stroller, car seat, diaper bag, purse, Max and myself thru the whole show.  The Atlanta airport was a bit easier but there were 2 of us and it was to the side so I did not feel like I was holding up the whole airport like I did in VA.

On the way home Max was a bit fussy and tired but I figured it was due to crazy naps and meeting new family.  It was actually the start of pink eye.  We spent the next week home on quarantine.

We had a great time visiting with the family.  I wish it was possible to live everywhere so could see all of our family that lives all over America a lot more often.
